Political Economy of Pandemics

COVID-19 has exposed deep social and economic divides in many countries, as well as levels of preparedness and capacity of national healthcare systems. It has also shown the ability of governments to adapt to the unknown, and to respond effectively and sensibly to mounting concerns while still fulfilling everyday functions of the government. Papers reflecting on economi cpolicies during pandemics including changes in the resource allocation pattern of different levels of government from centre to local self-governing institutions, resource mobilisation patterns, impact of pandemic on workers in the organised and unorganised sector, role of State policies in controlling the epidemics, modelling the pandemic in the long run and framing of policies to combat it, preparation of economies to face such episodes in the future would be covered under this section.
